Hello and thank you for visiting my website!
My name is Crystal Hanson. I have been teaching voice, music and drama to kids and adults of all ages for the past 30 years. I am happy to share with you a little bit about my journey through a profession I truly love.
Teaching Experience
I primarily teach out of my home studio in St. Albert, Alberta. I have been a contracted teacher for the Foote Theatre School, Citadel Theatre in Edmonton for the past 20 years where I currently teach musical theatre classes to kids between the ages of 8 - 18.
I have adjudicated at various Alberta music festivals and have been (and continue to be) contracted as a voice coach/musical director at various high and junior high schools in Edmonton and surrounding areas.
I have taught in preschool settings and special needs elementary, junior and high school aged students as a contracted music teacher under the direction of Music Therapist, Krista Hewson (La La La Learn Music).
Performance Experience
I am a singer and an actress and have had the privilege to explore my passion of performing alongside my teaching career for the entire time.
Prior to opening my teaching studio, I toured with different theatre groups including the Alberta Opera where I also held the position of Director of Artist in Residency for 3 years.
I have written/produced and performed in a number of Fringe shows in the past.
These days, you can catch me performing with my new tribute band, Crystal Blue & the Persuasions and local show band, Dash Rip Rock.
Education
I have a degree in Voice Performance (Capilano University/University of Regina). Yes! I am from Saskatchewan. (Go Riders!)
I am currently working on my MA in Vocal Pedagogy. I love studying about how the voice works and have a personal goal to strive to be the best teacher I can be at every stage of my career.
Other Credentials
I am about to finish my MA in Voice Pedagogy from the University of Wales. What an amazing and challenging experience!
I have had the honour of working with Jeanette LoVetri - Somatic Voicework TM, with Levels 1, 2, and 3 certification. I also am now a certified One Voice Practitioner through the One Voice Centre for Integrative Studies under the direction of Joan Melton, Ph. D and Jennie Morton, (B.Sc./ M.Sc.). I also have completed my 200 hour yoga teaching certification and am very much interested in working with the voice AND body. The two are connected and we need to be aware of that when we sing and act.
And Finally
I love working with singers of all ages. I see the voice as an extension of ourselves and love to assist singers to find their authentic voice. I am very much interested in working with all kinds of voices and musical styles. Whether you are looking for technique development, preparing for an audition, interested in expanding your repertoire, want to learn music theory or just plain want to sing, contact me. I would be happy to help you!
